Valuing People Learning Disability
White Paper sets out a vision for the
development of services based on four
principles

People with learning disabilities are amongst the
most vulnerable and socially excluded in our
society. Very few have jobs, live in their own
homes or have choice over who cares for them.
This needs to change people with learning
disabilities must no longer be marginalised or
excluded.Valuing people sets out how the
Government will provide new opportunities for
children and adults with learning disabilities
and their families to live full and independent
lives as part of their local communities.

Person centred means going beyond the provision
of a roof over a persons head and regular meals.
It is about listening to and understanding the
dreams and hopes of that person what makes them
excited, what makes them sad, what they would
like to do with their lives

start to explore what are the most important
things for the person and the family.
It enables people to work together to find out
what is important to and for each family member
