What are Nanowires?
  • A nanowire is a wire of dimensions
  • of a nanometer (10-9 meters).
  • Nanowires can be defined as
  • structures that have a lateral size
  • constrained to tens of nanometers
  • or less and an unconstrained
  • longitudinal size.

The Game Plan
  • Grow fullerene nanowhiskers
  • Use fullerene nanowhiskers as templates to grow
    nanowires
  • Somehow get rid of the fullerene nanowhiskers to
    be left with nanowires

Fullerene Nanowhisker Solutions
0.005g of C60 powder was dissolved in the solvent
and layered with another compound. After
layering, the solutions were allowed to sit for
4-5 days. 4 samples were made for each solution.

  • Nanowhiskers were made.
  • Unfortunately, no nanowires were made.
  • Technique of making nanowhiskers needs to be
    perfected so that nanowires can be made.
  • Research will be continued in the fall at my home
    university.
