Title: The clear identity of Jesus The cloud rider as God

1
The Son of Man Coming With The Clouds of Heaven
  • The clear identity of Jesus The cloud rider
    as God

2
Introduction
  • In a previous lesson we looked at the nature of
    Jesus and John 11.
  • We saw how many are deceived by mans teachings
about the limited and/or unscriptural view of
    Jesus.
  • We also saw through the Scriptures that Jesus
was God as noted through the text in John 11
and the overall teaching found in the Bible.

3
Introduction
  • In this lesson we will focus more closely on
another passage of scripture which will enrich
our faith in Jesus, as part of the Godhead.
  • We will see a prophetic picture with Jesus coming
to the Father at His throne, but what a divine
manner in which He approached the throne!
  • We will also see this Son of Man in the New
Testament Scriptures who makes it explicitly
clear that He was Divine which, in fact, cost
    Him his earthly life.

Son of Man Coming With the Clouds of Heaven
  • Syrian (Ugarit) writings The Cloud Rider.
  • Throughout the Ugaritic texts (at least 1200
BCE), Baal is repeatedly called the one who
rides the clouds, or the one who mounts the
    clouds.
  • The description is recognized as an official
title of Baal. No angel or lesser being bore the
    title.
  • As such, everyone in Israel who heard this title
associated it with a deity, not a man or an angel.

Son of Man Coming With the Clouds of Heaven
  • Syrian (Ugarit) writings The Cloud Rider.
  • Part of the literary strategy of the Israelite
prophets was to take this well-known title and
attribute it to Yahweh in some way.
  • Consequently, Yahweh, the God of Israel, bears
this descriptive title in several places in the
Old Testament (Isaiah 191 Deuteronomy 3326
    Psalm 6833 1043).
  • For a faithful Israelite, then, there was only
one god who rode on the clouds Yahweh.

Son of Man Coming With the Clouds of Heaven
  • Syrian (Ugarit) writings The Cloud Rider.
  • Until we hit Daniel 7, that is.
  • The plurality of thrones in the passage tell us
plainly that we have here what scholars of the
Hebrew Bible call a divine council scene the
high sovereign in his throne room, meeting with
    the heavenly host.
  • The literature of Ugarit has many such scenes,
and the biblical divine council and the council
    at Ugarit are very similar.
  • In point of fact, the flow of Daniel 7 actually
follows the flow of a divine council scene in the
    Baal Cycle.

Son of Man Coming With the Clouds of Heaven
  • Jesus the Son of Man before earthly court
seats (the Sanhedrin, Pilate, Herod). Matt. 26-27
  • Jesus identified Himself as the Son of Man. Matt.
    2664
  • He accepted the claim as the Son of God. Matt.
    2663-64
  • Finally, He accepts claim to be the cloud
rider, fulfilling Daniels prophecy. Matt. 2664
  • The council of the Jews heard enough Jesus was
guilty of blasphemyclaiming to be Jehovah (The
title of God) Himself! Jn. 197

12
Conclusion
  • Christians should be in awe and rejoice over
Jesus claim to Deity. Jn. 2028
  • Such a claim is the cornerstone to our faith with
the realization that the next time we see Him,
