You are here
? Start at Baytree Bookstore. ? Walk across
Quarry Plaza toward metered parking. ?
Cross the street. ? Follow signs for McHenry
Library pedestrian access. ? Do not go to
McHenry Libraryfollow path to Hahn Student
Service. ? Hahn Student Services is a big square
concrete building in the middle of the
forest just off the road. ? We are on the
first floor, by the south entry, next to
admissions.

What is the Role of the DRC?
  • To ensure students with disabilities have equal
    access to an education at UC- Santa Cruz, per
    federal and state laws.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act

What is an Accommodation?
  • An academic adjustment that allows a student
    with a disability the opportunity for equal
    participation in University coursework
  • Determined on an individual basis
  • Supported by appropriate medical documentation
  • Doesnt compromise academic standards

Accommodations Are
  • Based on the individual needs of each student.
  • Examples
  • Notetakers, Typists, Scribes and Readers
  • Test Accommodations (extended time)
  • Sign Language Interpreting and Realtime
    captioning
  • Part-time status enrollment

How to Request Accommodations
  • There are 6 steps.

Step 1 Submit Medical Documentation
  • Submit medical documentation for review ASAP
  • Refer to DRC website for UC Guidelines re
    medical documentation

STEP 2 - Call the DRC to meet with a Coordinator
  • Make an appointment ASAP
  • Discuss your accommodation needs and requests
  • Complete the annual DRC Information Sheet. Sign
    the release.
  • Read and sign Rights Responsibilities

Step 3 Submit service request (SRF)
  • Within the first two weeks of quarter
  • In Person for fall quarter or
  • Do this online after you1) meet with your
    service coordinator, and 2) sign the 09-10 DRC
    Information Sheet Rights Responsibilities

STEP 4 Check your UCSC Email
  • Allow two-three business days after youve
    submitted your SRF
  • Check the attached Accommodation Authorization(s)
    (AA) for accuracy.
  • Review the fact sheet links regarding your
    particular accommodations.

STEP 5 - Meet with your Instructor ASAP
  • Deliver the AA letter by the end of the second
    week (office hours are best)
  • Clarify what you need/dont need for that class
  • Discuss details of how accommodations will be
    provided (ex. Who is your contact person?)
  • Write them down for reference

STEP6 Follow-up As Needed
  • If applicable
  • Contact your notetaker
  • Reserve DRC equipment for exams
  • Confirm logistics with instructor or delegate
    before first exam
  • Always
  • Inform the DRC of any problems
