Objectives
  • Features and benefits of OS MasterMap data
  • Implications of new data set for users
    institutions
  • Using Digimap OS MasterMap download facility
  • Converting OS MasterMap data to formats
    compatible with GIS software
  • Importing data to GIS

4
OS MasterMap - Features
  • Framework rather than single dataset, comprising
    layers
  • Topographic, ITN, Imagery, Address
  • Each layer comprises a series of themes
  • Feature-based dataset
  • Each feature has a unique identifier - TOID -
    persistent 16 digit number

5
OS MasterMap - Benefits
  • Cleaner data
  • Polygonised data
  • Seamless datasets
  • TOID
  • Change only update
  • Continuously maintained
  • Consistent framework
  • Data format of the future for GB
  • Additional attribution
  • Additional metadata
  • GML Geography Mark-up Language

6
OS MasterMap in Digimap
  • LandLine now replaced by MasterMap in Digimap.
Can continue to use exsiting LL until end of July
    2009.
  • 2 MasterMap layers within Digimap
  • Topography layer, 9 themes
  • ITN layer, 2 themes
  • Can request themes of interest to you from layers
    in MasterMap download.
  • Digimap mapping offers two MasterMap views line
    drawing and full colour.
  • Digimap Carto will not allow MasterMap to be
combined with other products (at this time).
  • Terms of use as for other OS datasets in
    Digimap.

7
OS MasterMap in Digimap
  • Digimap Classic maps line drawing and full
    colour views.

8
OS MasterMap in Digimap
  • Digimap Classic maps - Scale
  • 110000 Upland
  • 12500 Rural
  • 11250 Urban

9
Digimap users
  • File sizes larger than LandLine data be aware
of you local and portable storage capacities
  • Maps will print better in colour access to, and
    cost of, colour printers?
  • User email addresses MUST be correct for data
downloads you are emailed a data ready
    notification
  • Check spam filters not blocking edina_at_ed.ac.uk
  • Latest versions of GIS and CAD software may be
required to manage new data format (GML)

10
