- Recheck fuel and ignition systems
- Transmission in neutral?
- Kill switch enabled?
- Verify that have water flowing through cooling
system - Check for fuel line leaks
- Check for water hose leaks
12Diesel Engines(Winter Storage)
- Lubrication Systems
- Must change oil and oil filter
- Oil highly susceptible to acid formation
- Internal Engine Fogging may require a mechanic
- Fuel System
- Add fungus inhibitor and fuel stabilizer
- Top off tank
- Drain fuel filter and water separator
- Replace fuel filters
- Other Systems same as previously covered
- with Gasoline Engines
13Diesel Engines(Spring Service)
- Fuel System
- Replace filters (if not done at winter Storage)
- Bleed system
- Air Intake
- Remove cover
- Clean
- Other Systems same as previously covered
- with Gasoline Engines
14Outboard Engines(Winter Storage)
- Add fuel conditioner to fuel tank
- Run engine for several minutes
- Disconnect fuel line and inject fogging oil
directly into the carburetor throat - Remove engine from water and while upright slowly
crank several times by hand - Drains water from the water pump
15Outboard Winter Storage 2
- Remove sparkplug and spray rust-preventive oil
into each cylinder - Clean, check and gap or replace sparkplugs
- Touch-up paint where paint missing
- Spray metal surfaces with moister inhibitor
- If applicable, service battery
- Drain fuel from tank and store tank outside
- Store in an upright position
- Service Lower unit per next section
16Outboard Engines (Spring Service)
- Inspect, clean and gap or replace spark plugs
- Inspect, clean and replace, if required, wires
- Replace fuel filter (unless replaced at winter
storage) - Reattach engine to boat
- Fill gas tank
- Correct fuel-oil mixture
- If applicable service and connect battery
- Service Lower unit per next section
17Lower Units(outboard and I/O)
- Winter Storage
- Lubrication System
- Drain small amount of gear oil
- Top-off gear oil
- Lubricate pivot pins and gimbal bearings
- Propellers
- Remove propeller
- Apply waterproof sealer to splines
- Replace propeller
18Lower Units - 2
- Winter Storage (cond)
- Replace sacrificial anodes
- Store drive in normal operating position
