Title: Analysis with Optical Coherence Tomography of the LASIK Flap created with the CarriazoPendular Micro

1
Analysis with Optical Coherence Tomography of the
LASIK Flap created with theCarriazo-Pendular
Microkeratome
  • Dr. Diego de Ortueta FEBO
  • Medical Director
  • Augenzentrum Recklinghausen

  • Consultant Schwind eye-tech-solutions

ASCRS 2007 San Diego
2
Purpose
  • To evaluate the homogenity of a LASIK-flap cutted
    with the Carriazo-Pendular Microkeratome (Schwind
    eye-tech-solutions, Kleinostheim Germany).
Measurement had been performed with the Optical
Coherence Tomography VISANTE TM Carl Zeiss
    Meditec (Jena, Germany).

3
Optical Coherence Tomography
  • Non contact procedure
  • 1310 nm Infrared wavelength blocked by pigment
  • We took 5 images per eye mode high resolution
    cornea
  • Resolution of the system with /- 12µm

4
Carriazo-Pendular Microkeratome
  • Advance automated 2 Motors
  • backwards without oscillation
  • curved Blade
  • Hinge position at 360 possible
  • we perform a superior hinge
  • We use the head 110µm ,130µm and 150µm

Carriazo-Pendular
5
Linear Cut with the Carriazo- Pendular
Microkeratome
With other Microkeratomes we get a
circumferential movement
with the Pendular we get a linear movement
6
Example of high resolution image after 1 week
LASIK
7
We got a planar flap with the differents heads,
in this case the 110 head
8
Image with the 130 Head showing also a planar cut
9
quick transverse edge of entering in the desired
cutting plane.
10
Conclusions
  • With the Carriazo-Pendular Microkeratome we get
    planar cuts
  • The limitation of the study is the resolution of
the system with /-12 µm which corresponds to the
standard deviation of the cut with the Carriazo
    Pendular
  • After two weeks we had difficulties to recognize
    and analyze the flap thickness
