Why our work is important

We are residents of the French River corridor who
have come together with the common goal of
ensuring that the water quality of the French
River will be secured for present and future
generations.
Our vision is to ensure that our great
grandchildren are able to swim, fish and boat the
French River as we do today.

Our beginning

The stewardship council was formed in February
2006 when it became evident that a number of
local residents had mutual concerns regarding the
river but did not have a common voice. Since its
inception the group has expanded and our public
meetings have become well attended.
First public meeting took place in July 2007 with
a follow up meeting in November 2007. The
executive and board meet on a regular basis.

Some of the things that we do

We educate and encourage people to practice
environmentally responsible use of the waterway.
We have undertaken testing of the water at
selected locations on an ongoing basis to monitor
water quality.
We have reviewed current and historical water
quality monitoring in order to develop projects
that target problems.
We issue our findings to our members and to the
general public.
We arrange for guest speakers that provide the
public with information on topics of
environmental importance.
We partner with groups, associations and with
government agencies, who share our vision.
Our recommendations on future dam designs to
ensure oxygenation have been accepted.
