Title: Application for Classroom

1
Application for Classroom
  • Staffing Plan Activity

2
Activity Learning Objective
  • Through developing a staffing plan (e.g.
    identifying key roles, developing job
descriptions, crafting interview questions) for a
start-up company, students first build their
    knowledge and understanding of REFLECT
competencies and their real business world,
Human Resource implications and, second, develop
a keener sense for how to position themselves for
    jobs.

3
Activity Description
  • This group activity enlists students as
consultants for developing and executing a
staffing plan for a start-up company. It
provides an opportunity for students to
effectively use REFLECT information to identify
the key roles, behavioral attributes, and
responsibilities for key company staff members.
Students also are responsible for coming up with
interview questions for each role that would
    support a smart, competency-driven hiring
    decision. As culminating project tasks,
students present their staffing plans and
participate in all hands class discussion.

Activity Modification or Challenge Opportunities
(if applicable)
  • Modification
  • Faculty determines if students will use example
case studies or create their own
  • Faculty selects one case study and student groups
    scope different positions, thus reducing
    activitys implementation steps
  • Challenge
  • Student requirement to scope a position that is
    not a REFLECT benchmarked position
  • Student group collaboration whereby groups
exchange interview questions and participate in
    mock interviews
  • For students who are currently employed,
    re-writing their organizations job descriptions
    to include REFLECT competency information

6
Grading Considerations
  • Did student teams adequately complete project
    tasks (e.g. job descriptions, interview
    questions)?
  • Did each group deliver an effective presentation?
  • Did each groups members demonstrate active,
    engaged and knowledgeable participation during
    class discussions?
