Situation
  • A 14 year old, Danielle with Von Willebrand
    Disease is new H.S. student competing on the
    girls swim team. The students has passed the
    WIAA physical exam for swimming participation.
  • History of swimming since the age of 8.
  • Last year, qualified for state participation in
    the 12-14 years of age 100 m breast stroke.
  • Danielle is on continuous birth control with no
    menses in the last 3 months.

Situation Continues
  • History of two bleeds while swimming
  • Right knee bleed as result of fall on the pool
    deck
  • Right wrist bleed as result of impact on hitting
    the pool wall at the end of a swimming event
  • Mom is a single parent and works full-time at
    Department of Transportation and part-time at
    Kohls Department Store.
  • Medications
  • desamino-8-arginine vasopressin (DDAVP) daily
  • Factor VIII as needed
