Tenure of judges.. he or she cannot be
dismissed from office without good reason In
return, a judge is expected to conform to high
standards of behaviour in his or her public and
private life and to be completely unbiased in
decision-making.

The Government cannot force a judge to resign if
that judge makes a decision with which the
Government of the day disagrees. In the UK,
judges are reasonably secure from political
interference. The right that secured judges
originated in the Act of Settlement 1700 which
allowed them to hold office while of good
behaviour. The same provision is now contained in
the Supreme Court Act 1981 for High Court Judges
and Lord Justices of Appeal.
