Bud Not Buddy
  • Christopher Paul Curtis

Main Idea
  • The main idea about the story Bud Not Buddy is
that Bud is an orphan and he is on a journey to
find his dad. But what her really finds out is
that who is supposed to be his dad really is his
    grandpa.
  • Bud sneaks out of the Amoss shed to find his dad
  • Bud decides that he wants to try to walk to the
Grand Rapids to find his dad.
  • Bud gets found sneaking along the road at night
    by Mr. Lewis
  • Bud starts to play in his supposedly dads band
  • Bud finds out that Herman is really his
    grandfather.

Theme
The theme of the story Bud Not Buddy is that Bud
is on a journey to find his dad and while he is
out looking I think that he learns a few lessons
along the way such as not to talk to strangers,
not to sneak out of some where unless it is a
emergency, not to lie. Some advice from the story
Bud Not Buddy that I would recommend is that you
should always be aware what is happing around
you, that you should not judge a person by the
outside like Herman because they can really turn
out to be a good person on the inside, and that
you should have fun while you read a book not
have a bad time

Plot
  • Bud is on a journey to find his dad and while he
is looking for him while out on the streets he
gets stopped by this man named Mr. Lewis
  • Mr. Lewis decides to take Bud to where he needs
to go which is the Grand Rapids
  • Bud gets taken there and finds out that Mr. Lewis
    knows who his dad is
  • Bud meets his dad Herman E. Calloway and goes
along with his famous band the Dusky Devastators
of the Depression and meets all of the band
    members too
  • Bud finally finds out that Herman E. Calloway
really is his grandfather not his dad.

Setting
  • The setting in the story Bud Not Buddy starts
out in Flint Michigan in an orphanage that Bud is
living in. At the orphanage Bud gets taken home
with the Amos family and has to live with them
from now on. Bud doesnt like their family or
their son Todd so Bud decides to do bad things to
him, and gets sent out to live in their shed for
a week until he can get his act together. So Bud
goes out and lives in their shed. Bud decides
that he wants to go and find his dad so he sneaks
out of their shed and goes to the library to find
Mrs. Hill to help him. Bud stays at the library
for a while and then goes out onto the streets to
go and start his BIG journey. While Bud is on the
streets he gets found by this man named Mr.
Lewis. Mr. Lewis takes him to his daughters house
to where he can stay there for a while and eat.
After Bud is done there Mr. Lewis takes Bud to
his BIG distention, the Grand Rapids. When Bud
gets to the Grand Rapids he gets taken to his
dads log cabin and meets him and all of the rest
of the band that he owns and plays in. Bud stays
there from there on and lives haply ever after
    with the band.

  • It was the longest and most severe depression
ever experienced by the industrialized Western
