Goal of Public Health Preparedness
  • To provide a coordinated and quick response to
    public health emergencies, including those
    resulting from terrorist attacks and natural
    disasters.

    that will ensure resources are available
    including pharmaceuticals and medical supplies in
    response to a major chemical, biological or
    hazardous event.

Beginning the Process

In the beginning
  • Isabella County approached the Saginaw Chippewa
    Tribe to begin discussion about SNS planning
  • Formed a committee including all disciplines
    (Medical, Fire, Police, Risk Mgt., Nimkee Admin.,
    PR, CMDHD, State, IT, Facilities, etc.)
  • Started a risk and impact analysis

The Next Step continued
  • In the event of a large scale, particularly
    severe biological or chemical disaster,
    communities will quickly run out of essential
    drugs and medical supplies due to overwhelming
    need.
  • Our planning will benefit the tribal community as
    well as serve as a resource to the larger
    community.
  • The CDC (Center for Disease Control Prevention)
    is prepared to send large quantities of supplies
    and medicines to assist in local response and
    recovery.

  • Then the decision was made to proceed with the
    planning process
  • The Health Board was consulted for approval
  • The Tribal Council was presented with the initial
    plan for approval
  • Then the committee was given the approval to
    begin formal planning by a motion of Council
