General Criteria
  • Graduate from an accredited medical school as per
    the expectations of the University of Manitoba
    (listed in the FAIMER database).
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or have Canadian
    residency status.
  • Must be fluent in spoken and written English as
    evidenced by a degree from a university where
    English is the working language OR a TOEFL score
    of at least 250 computer-based or 600 written

General Criteria
  • Must have performed well in medical school.
  • Must have a demonstrable interest in family
    medicine.
  • Has never had disciplinary action from a medical
    regulatory authority.

General Criteria
  • Reference letters must be dated no later than one
    year from time of receipt by us. Undated
    reference letters will not be accepted.
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized as evidenced
    by a complete application that is in accordance
    with our stated expectations. Extraneous
    documents are not needed and may lower your file
    assessment score.

IMG Specific Criteria
  • Must have passed the MCCEE
  • Preference will be given to international medical
    graduate applicants who have a pass mark on the
    MCCEE of 400 or greater.
  • Preference will be given to international medical
    graduate applicants who are not more than three
    (3) years since either medical school graduation
    or active clinical practice.
  • Preference will be given to international medical
    graduate applicants who have a pass mark on the
    MCCQE-1 of 450 or higher.

  • Preference will be given to international medical
    graduate applicants who have scored above average
    on the problem solving component of the MCCQE-1
  • Preference will be given to international medical
    graduate applicants with gt4 weeks of supervised
    clinical experience or gt1 year of employment as
    an allied health professional providing direct
    patient care in Canada's health care system. (NB.
    We do not consider research or observerships in
    the Canadian health care system as clinical
    experiences. An observer-ship is an opportunity
    for the candidate to observe a Canadian physician
    in action.)
