Farmers and Herders
10,000 years ago women discovered that seeds
produced new plants. People began to domesticate
plants for food. They built villages of stone
which they lived in year round. Some villages
began to domesticate sheep and goats for meat,
milk, and wool. Later they domesticated cattle
and pigs. They had a language and used stone
tools such as the plow, scythe, and hoe. They
also had time for art.

Farmers and Herders
Agriculture changed human societies. There was
more food. They raised crops for the animals as
well. The population increased dramatically. There
were wars over land and who had a right to
it. There were a large variety of plants and
animals. Wheat, barley, millet, maize, beans and
chili peppers. There were also chickens, cattle,
sheep, goats, and llamas!
