Horizon 7.4.1
  • The release of Horizon 7.4.1 and HIP 3.09 and

    Horizon customers.
  • Horizon 7.4.1 is a consolidation of all the bug
fixes that were done on the 7.3.x and 7.4
versions of Horizon and is the recommended
upgrade path for customers on either Horizon
    7.3.x or Horizon 7.4.x.
  • Release Notes containing detailed information
about corrections and updates included in Horizon
7.4.1 and HIP 3.09/4.13 are available on the
    Client Care site.
  • We recommend that you review the release notes
for both Horizon 7.4 and 7.4.1 to become familiar

14
Transit To and From
  • Transit To and From Agency are now logged with
    every checkin
  • The information is stored until the item reaches
    its destination location

15
Acquisitions Orders
  • In the past doing a Send To from a BIB record

    payment receipts
  • Ability for staff to determine if expiration date
should change when changing location or BTYPE

    7.0 have been tested
  • Budget Hierarchy Report, Percent Available
    displayed not a true percentage

19
Horizon 7.4.1 Defects resolved
  • Edifact files with a question mark (?) as the
last letter of the title can cause the Edifact
    processing to crash.
  • Creating PO from Distribution pattern results in
    some line items being dropped.
  • Use of colon, plus sign, question mark, or single
quotation mark (, , ?, ') in the Vendor Note
can cause issues with the Edifact file being
    properly generated.
  • Orders Created with 10 digit ISBN are not found
when searching using a 13 digit ISBN
  • A dash ('-') in the 13 digit ISBN can cause
verification in MARC Editor to fail.
  • An item barcode search using significant digits
    pulls up wrong item

20
Horizon 7.4.1 Defects resolved
  • The ability to print_format_block 'text' field to
    print for 'pickloc' field type
  • Pull list may fill wrong request if queue has
    been reordered
  • Items are aged to lost prematurely if the final
    notice was delivered by TeleCirc
  • Unable to do a damaged checkin on a transit
    request without corruption of data
  • Applying an Horizon StaffPac Restriction may
cause a "Database error Incorrect syntax near
    the keyword

41
Some key enhancements for HIP 3.09 Cont.

43
SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2 and 3.2.1 Major Updates
44
Services to End Users
  • Delivery Service (aka Books by Mail)
  • Allows our libraries to serve their customers
where they are! Allows customers to allow staff
or end users to specify that they want items
delivered to them at home or office. Can be
controlled by many parameters such as library,
item type and patron type. Includes cost
recovery and/or make a profit options for sites
who need to charge to cover expenses or raise
money. (Appropriate for all types of libraries
requires use of Demand Management and SirsiDynix
Symphony 3.2 or higher. Not in Horizon 7.x or
    8.x).
  • Bonus feature patron labels can be used to
    print patron library cards
  • iBistro/iLink/Web2
  • No extra charge

45
Services to End Users
  • Online User Registration
  • Makes it easy to allow new customers to register
for services and start using the library
    immediately. (Public Library oriented available
    in HIP today)
  • SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2 support for iBistro/iLink
  • Customers can design their own forms to capture
    locally essential information
  • Records may be reviewed first typical scenario
if users auto-registered that they have low
    privileges initially
  • Word list may be used to filter inappropriate
    language
  • SirsiDynix will not supply a default word list ?

46
Services to End Users
  • Patron Credits
  • Users can pre-pay fines and fees for library
services. Available in SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2
and higher (Public and Academic Libraries may be
appropriate for some consortia depending on how
they handle fees). Available in Dynix and Horizon

47
Services to End Users
  • Family/group/proxy circulation
  • Associate groups of patrons with each other and
allow them to have access to each others holds,
fines, etc. Define access with granularity to
ensure appropriate privacy among group members.
    Define dependencies for delinquency for
example, a parent might be delinquent due to a
dependent childs library fines or overdues.
This capability also provides the option of
grouping notices for the group. (All library
types) Available in Dynix Classic but not
    Horizon 7.x.
  • Plenty of granularity in who can see what to
    protect privacy
  • Just want to combine fines on checkin? Use
group checkin a GL 3.1 feature
  • Academic sites can use this to support proxy or
    carrel charge

48
Services to End Users
  • Consolidation of My Account features in
    iLink/iBistro
  • End users may review their accounts and perform
renewals and/or update hold information without
moving to separate menu options. This feature
already exists in EPS and Web2 and HIP. (All
    library types)
  • Probably most popular Unicorn Enhancement Forum
    request

49
Services to End Users
  • Language Field in Patron Record
  • A new field in the patron record may be used to
record patron preferred language. This field may
be used to produce notices in the patrons
preferred language and removes the current need
to establish language-specific patron profiles to
    accomplish language-based notification. (All
    library types) Available in Horizon

50
Services to End Users
  • Multiple, active patron IDs
  • For consortial situations in which the patron
has a different ID at different institutions but
otherwise shares patron record. Any active ID
may be used to call up patron record. Patron may
also have multiple inactive IDs inactive IDs
will result in warning message. (Consortia)
Available in Dynix Classic planned for but not
    completed in Horizon 8.

51
Staff Efficiencies
  • Ordered Holds Fill
  • Completely control the order in which holds are
filled from individual libraries or groups of
    libraries. Particularly appealing for consortia
or libraries whose service locations cover a wide
geographical range who want to keep down transit
costs while maximizing the rate at which holds
are filled. Requires use of Demand Management.
(All library types multi location libraries).
  • Also plan to offer option that will allow System
Range holds to be changed to group or library if
suitable copies exist and hold is placed from
    OPAC
  • This update offers new features for all customer
    types (Unicorn, Horizon, Dynix, etc.)

52
Staff Efficiencies
  • Updates to Bibload programs
  • Utilities allowing load of bibliographic records
(including bibload, 9xx suite, SmartPort, etc)
have been updated to support multiple match
points on numeric fields, option to use CatKey
for explicit matching and ability to create
holdings information during a single load even if
holdings data is included in different MARC
fields in the records in a given record load.
Delete handling options and subject field
processing options also updated. (All Library
    Types)
  • Does not provide all capabilities that exist in
Horizon or Dynix, but offers additional match
points that Horizon and Dynix sites will be
familiar with. Encourage customers to read
documentation on new delete options carefully.
Only use actual delete if you know exactly what
    you are doing.

53
Staff Efficiencies
  • 9xx Selection/Order Suite
  • Updated to accommodate selection or order load
files that include different accounts in the same
file. Improves efficiency by removing need for
    multiple loads. (All library Types)
  • Addresses increasingly typical scenario in which
Vendors require different accounts for different
    material types
  • Also accommodates library use of different
accounts for greater granularity in accounting
    practices

54
Staff efficiencies
  • X.12 P.O. Call number updates
  • Allows new option to define bibliographic call
number hierarchy in outgoing x.12 order. (All
    library types)
  • Previous option could only send call number
    record
  • Improves options for sites who have vendors
perform most processing prior to shipment

55
Staff Efficiencies
  • Additional scoping options on Acquisitions Fund
    Use
  • SirsiDynix Symphony/Unicorn has long
accommodated security levels on funds that
control which operators could view, encumber or
authorize expenditures on funds. In SirsiDynix
Symphony 3.2, additional security is available so
that it is possible that given operators may be
privileged to perform some or all functions on
funds, but use of funds may be limited to
    orders/invoices for individual libraries or
groups of libraries. In a centralized ordering
situation, this ensures that the correct funds
are used for ordering/invoicing of materials for
    designated libraries. (Consortia or
    multi-library settings using centralized
    ordering)
  • This additional scoping not available in Horizon
    8, Horizon 7.4, or Dynix

56
Staff Efficiencies
  • Option to limit authorization to Place Order
  • A new property may be used to control the
ability to set the date ready on all order
    types. (All library types)

57
Staff Efficiencies
  • Support for Taxes in Acquisitions Tax policies
may be established so that taxes may be
calculated automatically or manually entered and
charged to appropriate funds on invoicing. (All
library types) Available in Dynix Classic and
    planned for Horizon 8

58
Staff Efficiencies
  • Most APIs/print routines updated to support XML
output and input (all library types)

59
Staff Efficiencies
  • Use of CONSER information to create Serial
    Patterns Pattern suggestion capabilities have
been updated to allow use of CONSER data embedded
in bibliographic records to be used to create new
    patterns. (All library types)
  • Not available in Dynix or Horizon

60
Other SirsiDynix Symphony 3.2 Highlights
  • Materials Booking in Java Client
  • Material booking updates have yielded favorable
reviews from Horizon and Dynix sites who have
    reviewed the software.
  • Load options and additional holdings extract
    options in Serials

61
SirsiDynix StaffWeb of K-12
