Introduction
  • This programme is designed to promote and
    strengthen global developmental education and
    critical public awareness of and public support
    for development cooperation and global solidarity
    in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and
    Slovakia
  • With a generous support of the Dutch Ministry of
    Foreign Affairs

Background
  • The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe
    has been working to strengthen global development
    education in European countries including the
    countries of Central and Eastern Europe - since
    1990.

  • to strengthen capacity in global development
    education nationally, through the facilitation of
    multi-lateral learning and strategy sharing

Purpose of the Programme
  • To strengthen the quality and scope of provision
    of global development education in the Czech
    Republic.

  • To contribute to the development and improvement
    of policy and provision of global education in
    the Czech Republic.
  •  
  • To stimulate a dialogue among the parliaments,
    governments, local and regional authorities and
    civil society on issues concerning global
    education

  • To strengthen public awareness of, critical
    public engagement with and public opinion
    regarding issues of global interdependence,
    international solidarity and development
    cooperation, through global education.
  • To share learning from this programme with other
    interested actors in Europe.

  • The key feature is working through a partnership
    approach.
  • The North-South Centre has developed a specific
    quadrilogue approach, which involves
  • the government,
  • parliamentarians,
  • local and regional authorities
  • and civil society sectors.

  • This programme has been funded by the Dutch
    Ministry of Foreign Affairs

  • National Seminar for Czech Republic
  • Seed Funding for Global Education
  • GENE network
  • Peer Review
  • Global Education Week

National Seminar on Global Education
  • A quadrilogue national consultation process
    involving the key actors in the field of global
    development education.
  • Purpose
  • to share existing practice
  • to consult international good practices
  • to debate a national strategy on global
    education

Seed Funding for Global Education
  • A special seed funding for pilot projects in
    global development education
  • To be launched in addition to the existing
    funding structures
  • Towards the NSC Global Education Week

GENE Network
  • GENE (Global Education Network Europe) brings
    together representatives from MFA and
    practitioners to share structures for the support
    and funding of development education.

Peer Review
  • In consultation with national actors, there is a
    proposal to develop a national Peer Review on
    global education process possibly in 2005 or
    2006.
  • This would involve
  • participation of a Czech expert on global
    education in peer review of a another country
  • peer review of the global education in the Czech
    Republic

Global Education Week
  • Third Week of November
  • A intensified week of global educational
    activities by and for schools, NGOs and youth
    organisations and for general public on national,
    regional and local level.
