I am a 14 year old freshman at Niceville HS.
My father is a part of 7th SFG and currently on
Eglin as a part of the integration team. He has
told me that I need to find employment rather
soon. Are there any positions that a 14 year old
is allowed to do in and around the area? If so,
what would be the process (IE work permit or any
special process due to my age).   Response
"Work Permits" and/or "Working Papers" are not
required in Florida and are not issued by either
schools or a governmental agency in Florida.
Unfortunately, many popular teen employers use
applications with the request "If you are under
18, can you supply a Work Permit?" These
applications are being used for businesses that
have operations in other states that do require
Work Permits. http//www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr
/reg/childlabor/ChildLaborParent.html   As a
teen, it is extremely important for you to Know
your rights to a safe and healthful workplace.
Learn to recognize hazards at work and speak up
when you see them. Participate in training
programs at work or request training if none is
offered. Use safe work practices. Because of
the limitations placed on workers under the age
of 18 referenced in the brochure, most employers
rarely hire teens under the age of 16. As you
seek summer employment, if you find this to be
the case, take advantage of this time and
consider volunteering.    As a volunteer, you
can acquire job-related skills, begin building
your résumé, give back and make a difference in
your community and get a jump start on fulfilling
Floridas Bright Futures scholarship
requirements. The advantages of volunteering are
plentiful and rewarding!   Last but certainly
not least, you could always consider babysitting
for infants, children and/or petsJ. The American
Red Cross of Northwest Florida offers courses for
youth between the ages of 11-15 where they learn
the responsibilities and qualities of being a
good babysitter and can earn certifications in
Babysitters Training, Child Infant CPR,
Standard First Aid, Pet First Aid and Disaster
Preparedness and more. For more information,
please visit their website at www.floridaredcross.
