- The International Trade Data System (ITDS) is a
United States Government initiative to create a
single window for the collection, use, and
dissemination of international trade data. - ITDS will create interfaces with Federal
agencies, 44 so far. - Customs and Border Protection is the lead agency
for ITDS development.

6International Freight Data System
- The Department of Transportation (DOT) is
creating the International Freight Data System
(IFDS) to interface with the ITDS. - One stop shop for international trade data for
all DOT modal administrations.

- The Research and Special Programs
Administrations (RITA) Bureau of Transportation
Statistics (BTS) is the lead agency for the
development of the IFDS. - System of Record Notice published in the Federal
Register on April 14, 2008. - Privacy Impact Assessment document nearly final.
- Memorandum of Understanding to be signed by 2009.
8Release of IFDS Data
- RITA/BTS expects to release through IFDS similar
data to what are available in the TransBorder

10NHTSA
- The National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration (NHTSA) has responsibility for
assuring that vehicles and vehicle parts imported
into the United States meet Federal Motor Vehicle
Safety Standards. - NHTSA will receive information daily on motor
vehicle shipments. - Shipments flagged by NHTSA can be checked for
violations.
11FMCSA
- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration
(FMCSA) will use a program called Query Central
to link to ITDS. - Through Query Central, FMCSA will be able to
better analyze foreign trade data, and detect
possible violations of their regulations.

- Will pull data from IFDS.
- Summary data will be used to produce various
statistical and other publications. - More detailed data will be used for internal
purposes.
