Ways To Develop The Reading Habits Of Kids From
Early Childhood?
Reading can be a delightful experience for every
child, as their tender minds can easily learn and
remember facts. Just as physical activity can
make your child fit and healthy, reading habits
can enlighten their mind. Therefore every child
must be introduced to fantasy, science, mystery,
and nature through reading. At Preschool La
Palma, CA, the teachers create an interesting
curriculum and organize small activities so that
children actively participate in the
reading. Let us go through the importance of
reading habits in the beginning

Importance Of Reading Habits Improved
imagination and creativity - Dreams are the seeds
from which beautiful tomorrow grows. That's
right. Reading helps them feel secure and dream
about the beautiful world around them. And that
imagination takes the form of creative
intelligence in a child. Develops communication
skills - Reading helps a child learn more words
and understand emotions. Hence it gets easier for
them to communicate with others using their
acquired language abilities. Increases attention
span - Children cannot concentrate on one thing
for more than 4 to 6 minutes. However, through
reading, you can increase their attention span
gradually.

Cognitive development - Reading helps children
think, remember facts, and perceive the world
around them better. They are made aware of their
surroundings, which helps shape their
personality. Prepares them for academic
accomplishment - When a child develops a healthy
habit of reading from childhood, he faces no
problems with the books in his curriculum later
on. That is because his attention span and
retaining capacity are already heightened by that
time. Creates curiosity - Once a child gets
curious to know things, there is no turning back.
Reading helps them with their unending curiosity
and benefits them throughout their life.

How Can You Promote Reading Habits In A
Child? At 0 - 1 year During this time, a
baby's vision is developing. So you can use this
opportunity to dazzle them with colors. This
creates his ability to discriminate between
colors as babies are attracted to brighter
shades. Then, at 7 to 8 months, when he can utter
words like dad and mom, introducing them to a
colorful picture book will grab their
attention. At 1 - 2 years Picture books
containing small sentences can be provided at
this time. As a child reads those words, he hears
the sound of them and learns. Besides, the colors
are always present to keep them hooked.

At 2 - to 5 years Fairy tales, fables, or
science fiction would surely perk up their
interest firstly because it has pictures. And
secondly, now they have the curiosity to know
what happens to the princess or where the rocket
is headed. So leave your child with various
genres and allow them to explore. Many Montessori
Academy have a small library where a child can
choose his/her desired book and read. Following
these basic everyday tips can ensure that your
child will develop a knack for reading which will
eventually help in academics and life. Reading
helps to learn, and learning is an endless
process.
