Necessary Weight Loss Tips - Dr.Dirk Johns

Description:

Stress can have a negative effect on your mental and physical health. The worst thing that comes along with stress is the unintended weight gain. Stress is a major contributor to weight gain and can have long-term negative effects, if not dealt with. When we're under a lot of stress, a stress hormone is released known as cortisol. Cortisol tricks our minds into craving unhealthy junk foods containing more fat and sugar. When you're in the initial stages of stress, you may not feel like eating food and avoid it completely. However, in the long run, your hunger will increase and you’ll end up eating unhealthy junk food. This presentation provides valuable information on how stress leads to weight gain. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

1
4 Ways That Stress Leads to Weight Gain
2
Introduction
  • Stress can affect both your mental and physical
health. The worst part is the unintended weight
gain that comes with a stressful situation in
    your life.
  • Stress is a major contributor to weight gain and
can have long-term negative effects if not dealt
    with.
  • When we're under a lot of stress, a negative
response is triggered in our bodies, resulting in
the release of a stress hormone known as
    cortisol.
  • The cortisol hormone tricks our minds into
craving junk foods containing more fat and sugar.
At the initial stages of stress, you may avoid
eating food, but in the long run, it'll increase
your hunger and youll end up eating unhealthy
    junk foods.

How stress is related to weight gain
  • 1. Forget to Eat
  • During stressful times, we may either not feel
like eating or we eat less.
  • Missing a meal can sometimes lead to a metabolic
slowdown and lower blood sugar levels.
  • When youre too busy or stressed out, having a
little healthy snack can help you out. Oatmeal,
raspberries, chocolate milk and a few others are
a good option to make you feel less stressed.

  • 2. Gaining an Extra Layer of Fat
  • One of the unfortunate things that happens when
we're chronically stressed out is we end up
growing an extra layer of fat on our bellies.
  • Having excess belly fat for an extended period of
time is unhealthy. Fat in our bodies can release
    chemicals resulting in inflammation, thus
increasing the chance of heart disease.
  • Our body needs energy and it becomes important to
have a proper diet during times of stress.

  • 3. Craving Fast Food
  • When we're under the effects of anxiety or
stress, we crave more food, especially junk food.
  • We often find a lack of time to prepare food and
little mental energy given towards eating healthy
food. This is largely seen in urban cities where
work life takes a larger toll and the percentage
of people with stress is higher. Fast foods are
predators and our stressed out minds give up,
    resulting in weight gain.

  • 4. Sleep Constraints
  • Do you ever stay up late due to work or personal
issues? Worry is a major cause of insomnia, which
affects the overall body. To stay awake and keep
our minds functioning, we drink coffee or
alcohol, which makes us feel better. This
    certainly adds to weight gain.
  • Lack of sleep disrupts the chemicals ghrelin and
leptin, which control your appetite. Having no
    control over your appetite, ultimately,
    contributes to weight gain.

  • Its not that you cannot control your hunger or
stress. Following the right exercise routine and
keeping a healthy diet are some ways to bring
    down your weight.
