    helping, or auxiliary, verbs.
  • Common helping verbs
  • Be am, is, are, was, were, am, be, being, been
  • Have has, have, had
  • Do do, does, did
  • Others may, might, must, can, could, should,
    shall, should, will, would
  • I have never seen a killer whale

  • A transitive verb is an action verb that passes
    the action from doer to a receiver.
  • Many birds eat insects.
  • An intransitive verb expresses action but does
    not pass action from a doer to a receiver.
  • Most geese travel in flocks.
