We are going to concentrate on 2 countries of
Asia and their music.
India
Japan

As soon as the ancient music of China, Japan and
India is heard, it is immediately recognized as
ORIENTAL music.
One is aware that it sounds out of tune.
Also, a difference in the kind of instruments
used and the tone quality of the singers is
noticed.
This strange-sounding music from the Far East has
developed by itself, away from the influence of
European culture and music.

What does isolation mean?
Isolation means there werent many visitorsor
outside influences on the way they do things.
Being isolated resulted in a unique musical
tradition

Many instruments were created from the isolation
of Japan.
One in particular is the Koto.
Koto is a 13 stringed instrument that originated
in China.
The 13 strings are supported by 13 bridges.
The musician tunes the strings by moving the
bridges.
The koto was used to play music for folktales.

One in particular is the Sitar.
It is a plucked, stringed instrument.
It has resonate strings strings that resonate
when the main strings of the sitar are used.

(especially George Harrison).

outside influences on their culture or traditions.

music.
4. Japan had an out-of-tune sound. One of
their many instruments they created was the KOTO.
