• What is it?
• A person, place, or event in the Old Testament
  that prefigures or foreshadows something in the
  NT.
• In particular in Christ and his saving works.

• Isaac
• A father offers his beloved son.
• The son submits to the fathers will.
• Isaac carries the wood for his own sacrifice.
• God himself provides the sacrifice.

• Christ
• The Father offers His beloved Son.
• The Son submits to the Fathers will.
• Jesus carries his own wooden cross.
• God Himself provides the perfect sacrifice.

• Passover
• The angel of death would pass through Egypt,
  killing all the first-born sons and the
  first-born cattle.
• Where the blood of the lamb was sprinkled on the
  doorposts, the angel of death passed over that
  house.

• Three elements
• Each household had to provide an unblemished lamb
  to sacrifice.
• Blood had to be poured over the doorposts.
• Every family had to eat the sacrifice, that is
  the lamb.

• Christ
• Lamb of God who is offered as the sacrifice.
• His blood was poured out to save us from eternal
  death.
• We literally eat of this sacrifice every time we
  go to Mass.
