The Network 13 URB-AL Phase II

• Speeding the process of integrating local
  authorities in the Information Society.
• Capacity building by exchanging knowledge and
  experiences.
• Creation of synergies and establishing
  long-lasting bi- and multilateral relations
  between cities within a collaborative
  environment.
• Establishing the main axis for developing joint
  projects between governments and key players in
  the Information Society by working out a Basic
  Document.

Network 13 / Joint Projects I

• What are joint projects?
• Joint projects emerge from the co-operation and
  exchange among the network members to promote the
  development of common solutions to common
  problems.

2 Types of joint projects
Type A Exchange of experiences between local
authorities. The participants identify common
problems and devise concrete solutions.
Type B Are based on the results of a type A
project (completed under URB-AL Phase I or II) or
on the co-ordination of an URB-AL Network.

Type-A and Type-B Projects
gtgt no less than 5 project partner from at least 4
different countries
gtgtmax. 15 project partners, thereof no more than
3 external partners

• Type A
• EC funding max. 70 of the total costs up to
  250,000 EUR for each joint project

• Type B
• EC funding max. 70 of the total costs up to
  800,000 EUR for each joint project.

Duration max. 24 month The balance has to be
financed by the participants!

Synergies with other networks

• International commitment of Bremen in the field
  of IS and decentralized co-operation within the
  Global Cities Dialogue
• Focus on Latin America through the URB-AL
  programme and the Network 13
• Common objectives with the Network RED with the
  signature of a co-operation agreement between GCD
  and RED during
• the 1st Annual Meeting of the Network 13 and 5th
  General Assembly Meeting of GCD from 3 - 5
  November 2004 in Miraflores Peru

Perspectives for Latin American cities

• Broadening the local perspective and entering the
  global dimension of the Information and Knowledge
  Society.
• Increasing the awareness of the opportunities
  offered by new Information and Communication
  Technologies for the development of equal
  opportunities in social, cultural and community
  issues.

  and exchange best practices and successful
  applications to improve the efficiency and
  citizens-centred approach of local governments.
