• Description of function The act provides
  regulatory authority to ensure the safety of
  food, drugs, and cosmetics. Chemical provisions
  include regulation of human and animal drugs,
  food additives, color additives, pesticides, any
  poisonous substances in foods, drugs, or
  cosmetics. The acts main regulatory tool is its
  prohibition of adulteration and/or misbranding of
  products under its jurisdiction.
