ED 310-315REFLECTIVE TEACHING BLOCK (RTB)
  • What
  • Integrates ED 310-315 into one class which will
    be co-taught by a team including Mt.Vernon
    teachers and Dr. Ron Copenhaver
  • The RTB provides direct linkage between what is
    taught in the classroom and what is observed in
    the field.
  • Each preservice teacher (PT) will be assigned to
    a cohort school and each to a cooperating teacher
    (CT) or team of teachers with 2-4 other PTs

ED 310-315REFLECTIVE TEACHING BLOCK (RTB)
  • When Tuesdays 800 a.m - 430 p.m.
  • 800 a.m. - 1245 p.m. observing, participating
    and teaching in cohort school with CT and/or
    cooperating team
  • 100 - 330 p.m. in ED 310-315 class with all
    PTs at the Mt.Vernon City Schools Primary
    Center with Team Instructors (TIs)
  • 345 - 430 p.m. at cohort school for weekly
    debriefing with Team Mentor(s) (TMs)

  • Who
  • Team Mentors (TM) - 1 or 2 at each cohort school
    to serve as liaison between field and class and
    facilitate the PTs field experience
  • Team Instructors (TI) - 3 from the two school
    districts in Mt.Vernon and the SIUC Center
    Coordinator to plan and team teach instructional
    sessions
  • Preservice Teachers (PTs) - volunteer SIUC
    teacher education (ED 310-315) students placed in
    the Mt.Vernon-SIUC PDC

  • 1 or 2 teachers from Mt.Vernon Township High
    School (9-12)
  • 1 or 2 teachers from Casey Middle School (6-8)

    Intermediate Center (4-5)
  • 1 or 2 teachers from Mt.Vernon City Schools
    Primary Center (K-3)
  • Time Commitment (2-4 hours each week)
  • Making PT placements with CTs
  • Facilitating Debriefings once a week
  • Scheduling observations for PTs
  • Communicating (liaison) with PTs, CTs, TIs
    other school personnel
  • Problem solving for PTs and CTs
  • Evaluating and Planning as a part of the RTB
    Team

    syllabus Keep them advised of program
    status
  • To other team members - Secure input for
    improvement and adjustments
  • Coordinate planning and instruction
    Seek their assistance with resources
  • Assist Center Coordinator with other
    managerial duties

  • Only the amount required in the traditional

  • Allow PT to participate in classroom Share
    ways in which PT can help CT
  • Allow PT opportunity to practice skills
    Share best times for observations and teaching
  • concepts taught in ED 310-315 class
    sessions Assist in evaluation of field
    component
  • Allow PT to teach to small groups and/or whole
    class
  • at least 5 times during the semester

    Instructors To other SIUC and Mt. Vernon Schools
    personnel -
  • Aid Team Mentors in debriefing as needed
    Liaison with SIUC
  • Assist with evaluation of PT Insure
    requirements of SIUC, Districts 201 80
  • To team members - are met
  • Keep all parties on task informed Keep
    SIUC informed of RTB
