  • A meeting was held in Nadi on
  • It was organised by the LRD of SPC and sponsored
    by ..
  • Representatives from (countries) attended.
    Altogether there were X participants.
  • The program included

  • These representatives recommend the following
    activities are priorities for overcoming forest
    and land degradation in the Pacific region
  • Silvicultural techniques more work on indigenous
    and exotic species. This to involve seed
    technology (including supply, storage and
    handling methods), nursery techniques,
    species-site relations, provenance trial with
    seed from the Pacific and other regions.
  • Germplasm exchange review former SPRIG
    arrangements concerning transfer of plant
    material
  • Extension methods take advantage of some of the
    promising new methods being developed to promote
    reforestation by landowners
  • Partnerships learn from the variety of new
    partnerships that are evolving (landowners with
    governments, companies and NGOs)
  • New reforestation techniques these for heavily
    degraded sites and also those to make
    reforestation attractive to landowners (eg.
    underplanting with food plants or cash crops)
  • New financial arrangements to enable
    reforestation to commence and to make
    reforestation attractive to landowners

    assist PICTs by
  • Developing a Pacific Islands Restoration network
    to share knowledge .
  • Organising further training and capacity building
