Why this workshop?

  • This has caused a loss or decline in supply of
  • A loss of some GOODS
  • a decline in ECOLOGICAL FUNCTIONING
  • A decline in supply of ECOLOGICAL SERVICES.

3
Examples of some of the effects of forest loss
4
How much forest do we need?
  • Should we prevent all forest clearing?
  • No some land is needed for food production
  • BUT - sometimes clearing has been unnecessary
many cleared sites have since been abandoned
  • Some cleared sites should be reforested?

5
The key questions
  • How much should be reforested? (what are the
    opportunity costs?)
  • What type of reforestation?
  • Where should this be done?
  • How to make reforestation attractive to
    landowners?

Rehabilitation Network to share future experiences
