What is the British Empire?
  • The Empire is lots of Countries being ruled by
    one country. The British ruled many Countries
    including India, South Africa, and Australia.The
    British Empire started in the 15th century.

What is opium?
  • Opium is a milky substance that can be drained
    from unripe poppy capsules. It is a strong drug
    and it can be used for medicine. It is also very
    addictive and dangerous.

Why did the East India company start trading
opium?
  • When the British sailed to China to get Tea, the
    Chinese refused to because they only wanted
    silver. Soon it was very expensive, so the
    British grew Opium and sold it for silver.

How did Opium get into China?
  • It was smuggled into China by English Merchants.
    Opiums present name is Heroin but in Hospitals
    they call it Morphine. Its illegal if you take
    it out of hospitals.

  • Without the British Empire we would not have
    tea,sugar,rice e.t.c.Although we have some things
    to be proud of ,the British Empire has brought
    things to be ashamed of too like the fact they
    done slave trade and sold opium.So looking back
    at the opium wars we shouldnt really be proud of
    the British Empire.
