  • Latest version is JDK 1.3 (free!)
  • Also available 1.1.8 and 1.2.1(textbook)
  • You can use the JDK tools directly (javac, java,
    appletviewer, )
  • But youll need to
  • Use the DOS window to compile run
  • Set the PATH variable in DOS

  • Instead of DOS and the JDK, well use
  • pcGRASP with Java instead of C or Ada
  • Textbook also has Borland JBuilder.
  • We wont use this in class.
  • You can if you like, but JDK 1.3 will be used to
    grade your projects!

  • Chapter 1 much is history.
  • Expect reading quizzes!
  • Expect interactive exercises in class.

  • For Friday, 1/19 page 73ff.
  • 424 Problem 2.20
  • 524 Problems 2.29 2.32
  • You should be able to program these in your
    sleep. The challenge is learning the new
    environment, and some of the idiosyncrasies of
    the Java language compiler.
  • For fun try 2.31, 2.34
