Title: MUSIC%20THEORY

1
MUSIC THEORY
  • Lesson Objectives
  • To know the notes of the Treble Clef
  • To understand how to remember the notes of the
    Treble Clef
  • To be able to draw the treble clef and notes on
    the stave.

2
THE STAVE
  • __________________________________________________
    __________________________________________________

    _____________________________________________
  • The stave is the name of the 5 lines we write
    music on.

3
The Treble Clef
In Geography a map has a key that tells you what
the symbols mean. This is a similar thing. The
treble clef is a symbol which tells you that
you're about to play higher notes.
Clef is French for Key.
4
The Treble Clef lives at the start of the stave

Notes can be drawn
  • On the lines
  • Notice the direction of the stems up on the
    right, down on the left
  • Or in the spaces
  • When the note head is at the middle of the stave
or above, the stems go down

6
Rhyme for the Lines
  • The notes on the lines can be remembered by the
    mnemonic
  • Every Good Boy Deserves Football
  • Every Good Boy Deserves
    Football
  • Each note head is centred on the line half above
    half below

7
Face in the Space
  • The letters of the notes in the four spaces spell
    the word FACE

Each note head is 'in' the space, touching the
lines but NEVER going over
8
Ledger Lines
  • Sometimes we may wish to go higher or lower than
the stave. To do this, we carry on drawing notes,
first in the 'space' and then on a mini line
which is called a Ledger Line. The note below is
called Middle C and it lives at the centre of the
    piano keyboard.

9
The Musical Alphabet
  • In music we only use the first 7 letters of the
alphabet and then repeat them over and over
    again.

Can you work out what the notes on the ledger
lines above and below would be?
10
ANSWERS
  • The ledger line above the stave would be A. It's
the letter that comes after G in the musical
    alphabet.

The ledger line below the stave would be
(Middle) C. It's the letter before D in the
musical alphabet.
