  • Ask yourself Is my number getting larger or
    smaller when I move from the x to the y?
  • Larger How can I make a number bigger?
  • Smaller How can I make a number smaller?

  • Larger Add or multiply
  • Smaller Subtract or divide

What do I do if that does not work?
  • This means that it isnt a one step rule
  • Now you need to try two step rules!
  • To get larger - Start by multiplying by 2 and
    then add or subtract to get to the number. See
    if that rule work for the next input/output. If
    not, move to multiplying by 3, 4, 5.

  • To get smaller - Start by dividing by 2 (same as
    multiplying by ½) and then add or subtract to get
    to the number. See if that rule work for the
    next input/output. If not, move to dividing by
    3, 4, 5.
