Title: Helen Doron Early English

1
It's never too early to learn English but it
depends
HOW
Helen Doron Early English Methodology and
practice from 3 months
2
  • Newborn babies are born with unlimited
  • potential.
  • Mothers and fathers intuitively feel their
  • baby's innate abilities.
  • Helen Doron Early English helps children
  • realize innate and vast abilities.

3
  • The right method repeated hearing,
  • positive reinforcement, fun, songs, games,
  • action,
  • whole-brain learning.
  • The right materials
  • The right teachers

4
HDEE is unique. HDEE is based on linguistic
theory of how a child learns his mother tongue.
HDEE is created with love, joy, music and
curricula of vocabulary and grammar.
5
Who is Helen Doron?
  • CEO and founder of The Helen Doron Group, Helen
was born in London, England and holds a MA in
    Linguistics.
  • Helen started the company in 1985 when she
developed a new, fun method for teaching English
as a foreign language to small children using
repetitive hearing, positive feedback and lots of
original music. To date more than half a million
children can testify to its effectiveness.

6
  • Dr. Suzukis Method mother-tongue method for
  • teaching music through repeated hearing and
  • positive reinforcement.
  • Helen Doron Early English mother-tongue method
  • for teaching language.
  • Dr. Suzuki teaches the language of music.
  • Helen Doron teaches the music of language.

7
  • Why do we start teaching at 3 months?
  • The newborns brain grows at an amazing rate -
  • approximately 1/4 million new brain cells a
  • minute!
  • When stimulated, these cells form numerous
  • interconnections.
  • Cells that are not stimulated die off.
  • We either use them or lose them

8
  • There are critical windows of opportunity
  • for learning.
  • Our brains are particularly open to certain
  • stimulations at certain times.
  • Once that time is up, you can never recapture
  • that unique ability.

9
Levels of Language Prosody intonation and
rhythm Phonetics pure sounds Phonology sounds
arranged into units of
meaning Morphology word grammar Syntax sentence
structure Semantics meaning
10
  • Language is far more complicated than maths.
  • Yet, children learn all the levels of language
    simultaneously.
  • And superbly.
  • Even brain-damaged children learn their mother
    tongue
  • because brains are programmed to do this at a
    very young
  • age.
  • Children can learn any number of languages if
    presented to
  • them in a systematic, enjoyable way.

11
  • The path leading to language begins even before
    birth.
  • Newborn babies prefer their mothers' voices
  • At first, infants respond only to the prosody
  • At 4 months, the infant can perceive the entire
    range of
  • phonemes of all languages in the world even
    the noise that
  • sounds like a drop of water hitting an empty
    bucket.

12
  • At 6 months
  • The child will recognized the phonemes of her
  • mothertongue as distinct from those of other
    languages
  • Every language uses a different assortment of
    sounds,
  • called phonemes, which combine to make
    syllables
  • Japanese speakers have trouble distinguishing
    between
  • the "l" and "r" sounds of English, since in
    Japanese they
  • don't count as separate sounds
  • French speakers cannot distinguish between the
  • words sheep and ship

13
  • Why it is important to start learning English
  • as early as 6 months?
  • It is the age when the children learn the
    phonemes
  • of their mothertongue.
  • By learning English with HDEE, the infant will
    learn English
  • in the same way children learn their
    mothertongue
  • Separate language centre will be formed in the
    infants
  • brain for English.

14
  • In 2 years of informal exposure to language,
    your
  • 2-year-old child will learn more than you doing
    2 years
  • of formal study of the language.
  • This is a brain function a window of
    opportunity
  • It is available to children from birth - until
    the age of 7.
  • This is the only time in which the child can
    learn grammar
  • like native speakers.
  • After that, the learning involves a lot of
    effort and the
  • results will never be those of native speaker
    competence.

15
  • Helen Doron Early English imitates the way a
    child
  • learns his mother tongue.
  • Helen Doron Early English uses repeated hearing
    and
  • positive reinforcement.
  • Helen Doron Early English has very special
  • materials for children from the age of 3
    months to the
  • age of 14 years.
  • Helen Doron Early English is systematic, but it
    allows
  • for flexibility according to the country in
    which it is
  • taught.

16
  • The Mother tongue Method
  • With Helen Doron Early English, children hear
    the CDs at
  • home in the background twice daily while
    eating,
  • playing, dressing, going to bed.
  • The language becomes part of them.
  • When they come to the class, they learn the
    meaning
  • of what they can already sing and say.
  • The progress is very fast.
  • The progress is fun.
  • The progress is systematic.
  • The results are amazing infants understand,
    speak, sing
  • and use a wide vocabulary.
  • Children speak like native speakers.

17
The classes involve VAKT techniques Visual Audito
ry Kinesthetic Tactile Multisensory techniques
are used for teaching, as different children have
different learning styles.
18
  • Communicative Competence
  • HDEE teaches English for communication.
  • HDEE creates an environment in which the
    children
  • can be creative with the English language.
  • HDEE gives the children a childhood in English.

    intonation etc.
