Introduction to the C-Leg
  • C-Leg History
  • 1988 First Prototype developed by Kelly
    James, Canada

1997 C-Leg brought onto the market in
Canada and Europe 1999 C-Leg introduced in the
US 2006 over 13,000 sold world wide in over 20
different countries. Over 1,900 practitioners
trained in the United States. Fall 2006 New C-Leg
released

How the C-Legworks
Concept of Real time gait analysis

The knee joint measures gait parameters 50 times
per second, analyzes the patients gait and
changes the hydraulic controls to prepare for
the patients next movement.
  • Knee angle change
  • Direction and velocity
  • Ankle plantarflexion moment
  • Increasing/ decreasing
  • Ankle dorsiflexion moment
  • Increasing/ decreasing

2nd Mode
  • gt For switching over, load the toe three times
with the leg extended but without completely
    unloading the prosthesis.
  • gt Success is indicated by a signal. Then lift
the prosthesis off the ground. The C-Leg will
then switch Modes and confirm by a signal.
