Food

• All animals need food, but not all animals need
  the same kinds of foods.
• Some eat plants, some eat other animals or
  insects and some eat both plants and animals.

Herbivores

• Herbivores are animals that only eat plants.
• Cows, horses, rabbits and deer are all herbivores.

Carnivores

• Carnivores are animals that only eat meat.
• Lions, tigers, bobcats and coyotes are all
  carnivores.

Omnivores

• Omnivores are animals that eat both plants and
  meat.
• Bears, raccoons and people are all omnivores.

Water

• Every animal needs to water to survive!
• Some animals even live in water.
• Animals can live in fresh water such as ponds
  and lakes or they can live in salt water like the
  ocean.

Shelter

• An animals shelter is its home.
• Animals need a safe place to be protected from
  bad weather and predators.
• Different types of animals need different types
  of shelter.
• Some animal homes include trees, rocks, caves
  and burrows.

Assignment

• This week we will be exploring animals in our
  state, South Carolina.
• You will be completing a webquest called South
  Carolina Safari.
• On your webquest you will work with a partner to
  research an animal in our area and discover its
  characteristics and habitat needs.
