The Chinese Republic in Trouble
  • Chinas Qing Dynasty collapsed in 1911.
  • Sun Yixian, the president of Chinas new
    republic, wanted to rebuild China on the Three
    Principles of the People-nationalism, democracy,
    and economic security.
  • After making little progress, China fell into
    chaos from the twin evils of warlord uprisings
    and foreign imperialism.
  • In 1912, Sun Yixian stepped down as president in
    favor of Yuan Shikai, who wanted to create a
    strong central government.
