When did the javelin start?

• The javelin was introduced to the Olympics with
  nine other sports. Previously the only sport was
  chariot racings.
• The Javelin started about two thousand five
  hundred years ago.
• Many people were injured because it is a very
  sharp weapon.

Where did it start?

• People say that the javelin started in Ancient
  Greece up at Mount Olympus to impress Zeus the
  mighty god of thunder.

Why was it called the javelin
Well in old times it was not called javelin it
was called javelot which came from the Celtic
language.

Who holds the world records for distance?

• The men's world record in the javelin throw is
  held by Jan Zelezny of the Czech Republic who
  threw the javelin 98.48 meters in 1996.
• The women's world record in the javelin throw is
  held by Barbora Špotáková of Czech Republic who
  threw the javelin 72.28 meters in 2008.

• The javelin is shaped as a hunting spear and the
  sport originally came from the spears they threw
  at prisoners.

What are the javelin rules?

• Throwers may place as many as two markers in the
  runway.
• The javelin is held at the grip and thrown over
  the shoulder or the upper part of the throwing
  arm.
• Spinning is illegal.

• Theresa Ione "Tessa" Sanderson, (born 14 March
  1956) is a former British javelin thrower and
  competed in the javelin competition in every one
  of the six Olympics from 19761996 winning the
  Gold medal in 1984.
• Fatima Whitbread (born Fatima Vedad
• 3 March 1961) is a British former Javelin
• thrower and multiple medal-winner.
