  • Virginia House of Burgess held a convention to
    determine what to do against the threat of the
    increased amount of British troops

  • After several speeches in favor of compromise,
    Patrick Henry rose and defended his position to
    fight the British.
  • After his speech, a clergyman at the convention
    stated he was Sick with Excitement
  • At the end of the speech, Henry was said to have
    grabbed a letter opener and plunged it towards
    his chest at the last word death

Outcome
  • The delegation was persuaded, and planning for
    the Revolutionary war commenced.
