Title: Energy

1
Energy
  • By Student S

2
What is energy?
  • Is the ability to do work

3
What is the difference between energy and work?
  • When work is done on or by a system the total
energy of the system is changed.Energy is needed
    to do the work.

4
What are the Fives form of Energy
  • Electromagnetic-energy from a electromagnetic
    field
  • Thermal-
  • Chemical-
  • Nuclear-
  • Mechanical-

5
What is the difference between potential and
kinetic
  • Potential energy is stored energy because of its
    position or state
  • Kinetic energy is energy of movement.

6
What does the Law of Energy Conservation state
and how is this law related to energy conversions
  • In any transfer of energy among objects in a
closed system (one where no external forces act
and no external work can be done on or by the
system), the total energies (potential and
kinetic) of the system remains constant.

7
What is the main source of energy and why?
  • The sun because everything needs sun light or
heat and that is what the sun does to the earth.
It allows plants and animals to function. It also
heats the earth so we can use geothermal and use
    the sun for solar energy.

8
What are alternative energy resources and what
are traditional energy resources? Give 5 or more
examples of each.
  • These are non renewable resources
  • Fossil fuels-coals, natural gas, oil
  • Nuclear-uranium
  • These are renewable resources
  • Solar-energy from the sun
  • Hydro-energy from moving water
  • Geothermal- energy from hot rocks under the
    earths surface
  • Wind-energy from rise and fall of tides
  • Waves-energy from ocean waves
  • Biomass-energy from burning plant material
  • Incinerators-energy from burning trash

9
Discuss the negative and positive effects of
these traditional and alternative energy sources.
  • Traditional energy is cost more and can
    eventually run out.
  • Alternative energy wont ever run out because you
use the wind, sun earths core or waves. Those
will always happen and it is cost friendly.

10
How do you conserve energy, give about 8 examples
of how you can conserve energy in your daily
life.
  • Walk to school instead of ride the bus
  • Dont run the water the whole time I brush my
    teeth.
  • Shorter showers
  • Shut the lights off when you leave the room
  • Dont leave the TV on all night
  • Ride my bike to work instead of drive my car
  • Shut the computer off when done with it and not
    leave it running
  • Dont waste food

11
What is the power source of nuclear?
  • Uranium

12
How is nuclear energy used to make electricity?
  • It is made into steam then it is transferred into
a gas which then powers a pump
  • Nuclear energy is the use of sustained nuclear
fission to generate heat and electricity. A
nuclear fission is radioactive decay process in
which the nucleus of an atom splits into smaller
parts. Nuclear fusion is the process by which
two or more atomic nuclei join together, or
"fuse", to form a single heavier nucleus

13
Why can the use of nuclear energy become
dangerous?
  • Because It is radioactive and the radiation can
    cause cancer

14
Effects of energy on the enviorment
  • The fossil fuels make it so we put a lot of CO2
into the air and pollute the air. The renewable
resources allow us to make energy and it will be
    clean energy.
