  • Last night April 4th Martin Luther King was shot
    in Memphis Tennessee. He was assassinated by
    James earl ray. Kings death has shocked the
    nation and the whole country is sad and angry at
    this horrible event. He is going to be buried in
    Atlanta under a monument inscribed with the last
    words of his famous I have a dream speech

His Background
  • Martin Luther King was born in Atlanta on Jan 15,
    1929. Martin encounted racism at an early age,
    when he was 11 he was struck him an called him a
    nigger. He decided to become an minister and at
    18 he was ordined in his fathers church. In
    Boston king met coretta Scott. They married in
    1953 and had two sons, and two daughters.

His Achievements
  • In kings brief career greatly the cause of civil
    rights in the us. His efforts spurred the passage
    of the civil rights act of 1964, and the voting
    rights act of 1965. His energetic personality and
    persuasive oratory helped unite many blacks in
    search for peaceful solutions to racial
    oppression. Although kings views were challenged
    by blacks who had lost faith in non violence his
    belief in the power of non violent protests
    remained strong.
