Japanese Americans
  • Impact on

2
Key Terms
  • Enemy Aliens- Proclamations signed by president
Roosevelt declaring all German, Italian, and
Japanese nationals, or non- U.S citizens to be
enemy aliens. Government considered putting all
enemy aliens into camps. Government made them
    carry special identification cards.
  • Internment Camps- a center for confining people
who have been relocated for reasons of national
    security.
  • Executive Order 9066- this order declared that
large military zones could be set up to exclude
current residents who were believed to be a
    threat to security.
  • Korematsu v. United States- the Court upheld his
conviction on the grounds that a groups civil
rights can be set aside in a time of war.

Hardship
  • People of Japanese descent were sent to
    concentration camps
  • This action was put into place by the Executive
    Order 9066
  • Were thought of as threat.
  • After war people blamed them for the start and
    were very racist towards them.
  • They lost houses and farms and many belongings to
    the sudden move.

4
No opportunity
  • There were no opportunities for Japanese
Americans during WWII. The Japanese americans
lost everything during the war, homes,
businesses, farms, respect, status and sense of
    achievement.
  • Japanese Americans were relocated into internment
camps, many people who were not always family
    members, shared small living spaces.
  • Japanese Americans did their best to get through
this experience and remained surprisingly loyal
to a nation that treated them so unfairly. More
than 300,000 Japanese American men enlisted in
    the armed forces.
