Graduation Requirements
  • A unit is one course or class. You must make a
    passing grade and pass the End-of-Course Test in
    that subject to receive a unit of credit.
  • Concentrated Area This is one of the areas of
    vocational classes.
  • Health Occupations
  • Family Consumer Science
  • Business/Office Technology
  • Agriculture
  • Automotive Mechanics
  • Construction

The OLD High school Diploma
  • Technology Career Diploma-Required you to take at
    least 3 units/courses in Math, Science, Social
    Studies and 4 units of Language Arts Vocational
    Electives (at least three in the same area). No
    foreign language. A total of 22 units or more.
  • College Prep-Required Academic courses in Math,
    Science, English, Social Studies, and Foreign
    Language, and vocational electives (any area).
    A total of 24 units or more.
  • Dual Diploma-You could meet both requirements
    with Academic classes, foreign languages and
    selecting at least 3 vocational electives in a
    concentrated area.

The NEW Diploma
  • One for ALL! Everyone must have 28 units
  • Requires FOUR units each of Math, Science,
    Language Arts, Social Studies (16 units total)
  • Requires 3 units of CTAE, Foreign Language and/or
    Fine Arts. If you want to attend a University
    System of Georgia School you must have two units
    of foreign language
  • Requires 1 unit of PE (Health Personal fitness)
  • Electives 8 units
  • This will start with the Class of 2012

    the additional requirements

Graduation Requirements
  • In order to graduate (Pierce County), you must
  • Satisfy attendance requirements
  • Complete the required 28 units of coursework
  • Pass the GA High School Grad TESTS
  • Pass the GA High School Writing Test

Georgia High School GRAD TEST
  • All students are required to pass
  • Tests in each subject area
  • English/Lang Arts
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Begin taking your Jr. Year
  • You have multiple opportunities to take the test
    if you dont pass the first time.

What if I dont pass the GRAD Test?
  • You will not receive your regular diploma until
    you pass all sections.
  • To be eligible to participate in graduation
    ceremonies you must meet all requirements and
    pass all state assessments
  • Pierce Co BOE does not allow students to graduate
    early
  • You must be enrolled in a minimum of 8 semesters
    during regular school terms to be a candidate for
    graduation.

  • After high school you have many options

  • Attend an apprenticeship program or on the job
    training
  • Volunteer to learn new skills
  • Join the military
  • Get a job!

Post Secondary Schools
  • Vocational / Technical College teaches work
    related skills about a certain job. Degrees can
    be earned in 12-24 months. On the job training
    is part of the degree.
  • Jr. College-offers Associate degrees. Usually
    only attend for two years, then go to a larger
    University to complete your degree.
  • University-Four years or moreOffers academic
    degrees such as teaching/education, business,
    pre-medicine, etc. Can earn bachelors, masters,
    doctorate degrees.

Degree Programs
  • Associate Degree-2years of core curriculum
    classes not necessarily related to a subject.
    General courses. You will attend a Junior
    College or University
  • Bachelors Degree-4 years of study. First part
    (2 years) is core (general) classes, Second part
    (2 years) concentrated on your area of study.
    You must attend a college or university for this
    degree
  • Technical Diploma/Certificate-You attend a
    Vocational school. General classes and subject
    classes with hands-on activities and on the job
    training. It takes 18-24 months to earn this
    degree.

All Schools Different Degrees
  • Not all colleges, tech schools and universities
    offer the same programs of study.
  • For example, Some schools have medical degree
    programs while others do not.
  • You must research to find out if the school you
    are interested in has the program you want to
    learn.
