Source Cards and Note Cards
  • How to effectively use PowerPoint to simplify the
    research process

2
Why use source cards?
  • Source cards are a convenient way to keep up with
sources from which you got info for your research
    paper.
  • They will make doing the Works Cited page in
    text citations much easier.

3
Source
  • MLA Citation (formatted correctly using Easy Bib)
  • Attach screen shot of source page
  • Place Found (Internet, school library, etc.)
    In text citation

4
Why use note cards?
  • Note cards help you organize your information
    when writing the actual essay.

5
Source Topic of Note
  • Up to three bulleted notes of information per
    card
  • Put direct quotes in quotation marks
  • You may color-code your note cards to match the
topics of paragraphs where you will use this
    info.
  • In-text Citation

Source 1Labeling People
  • When this form of labeling occurs, the people
who have been branded faultily learn to separate
themselves from their alleged negative image in
order to maintain their sense of personal
    dignity.

Directions, Tips, and Tricks
  • Use Microsoft Word and transfer to Powerpoint if
    you have spacing issues
  • Use Easybib and Purdue Owl to create and double
    check citations.
  • Organize sources and notes to fit you best. Color
code, numbering, alphabetical, etc. However, when
you submit, source cards must be alphabetical
with the note cards by that source directly
following. Ex. Source 1, Note cards for source
one, Source 2, note cards for source 2, etc.
  • Check sources for credibility

9
Directions, Tips, and Tricks cont.
  • Your paper will be 5-7 pages, so you need 5-7
    sources
  • You must use a source at least TWICE, but no more
    than FIVE times
  • Make sure you note any info you use from a source
(even if it is not a direct quote) that would not
    be considered common knowledge
  • If you are unsure- ask, read Purdue Owl, or cite
    it to be safe
