American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
  • Health Information Technology for Economic and
    Clinical Health (HITECH) part of ARRA Act
  • Provides significant financial incentives to
    hospitals and BH professionals who demonstrate
    meaningful use of electronic health records
    technology

Key Provisions of HITECH
  • Two types of incentives Medicare and Medicaid
    Must choose between them.
  • Available to physicians, nurse practitioners, and
    physician assistants
  • Incentives include 21,250 in year 1 and 8,500
    per year for years 2-6 for a total of 63,750 per
    eligible professional
  • Funding is NOT up-front
  • Meaningful use requirements must be met
