Before we start...
  • Homework model answer
  • Explain how you adapted your strategy?
  • I had to adapt my strategy to improve it. I did
    this by developing 3 options for the point guard
    during the fast break. Initially he had to pass
    to the forward to score. This became predictable
    to the opposition. Now the PG can drive in and
    score himself, he can pass to the forward as
    before or he can pass to the Centre who has
    overlapped him in the right lane. This means we
    now have a scoring option from each lane in the
    fast break.
  • Why did this adaptation make the strategy more
    effective?
  • This made our strategy more effective as we now
    had 3 different options to score with on the fast
    break. This made our strategy less predictable
    and our opponents found it harder to defend
    against. We scored more baskets using this
    strategy as we could now use the different
    options and use the strategy more often.
  • Task- read your partners homework response.
  • Compare it to the model above.
  • If it is perfect, give it a green face. If it
    needs some improvement , give it a yellow face
    and if it is a weak response give it a red face.
  • Now pass it back and see if you agree with your
    partners response.

How did we gather data on the Fast Break?
  • Videoed ourselves playing a 10 minute game.
  • Completed an observation schedule whilst
    replaying the video.
  • The observation schedule broke the attack down
    into small parts.
  • Parts - Rebound, outlet pass, dribbles down the
    middle, pass, lay-up.

How did we gather data on the Fast Break? (cont.)
  • Every time a Fast Break was attempted we filled
    in the observation schedule by placing a tick
    beside parts of the attack that were successful.
  • If a part of the attack was unsuccessful we
    placed a cross next to it and wrote a comment to
    say why it was unsuccessful.
  • If we missed something on the video we rewound
    the tape and watched it again.

Why was this method appropriate?
  • Videoing our performance let us watch over the
    performance as many times as we wanted. This
    made our data gathering more accurate.
  • Writing a comment gave us specific feedback on
    why the attack broke down. This allow us to
    design specific practices to improve our
    weaknesses.
  • Video and observation schedule are permanent
    records of our performance that can be looked at
    again.
