Titration

• A technique for determining the concentration of
  an unknown solution

Titration

• An acid of unknown concentration is added to an
  Erlenmeyer flask
• An appropriate indicator is added to the acid
  solution
• A base of known concentration is added to the
  burette
• (Or vice versa!)
• The solution in the burette is called the titrant

Titration

• The titrant is added drop by drop until the
  indicator changes colour
• This is called the endpoint
• The volume of titrant added is recorded (final
  buret volume - initial buret volume)
• The trials are repeated in triplicate
• Precision is important, colour change happens
  quickly
