The Night Sky
Friday, April 20 Capella, Venus, and
Aldebaran form an almost perfectly straight line
in the western sky this evening and Saturday
evening, in that order from upper right to lower
left. Saturday, April 21 The weak but
unpredictable Lyrid meteor shower should reach
maximum activity in the hours before dawn Sunday
morning. There will be no Moon. You might see a
dozen Lyrids per hour under ideal dark-sky
conditions before the beginning of dawn. See A
Good Year for Lyrid Meteors. New Moon (exact
at 318 a.m. EDT on the 21st).   Sunday, April
22   Jupiter shines below a very thin crescent
Moon very low in the west-northwest in twilight,
as shown at right. Think photo opportunity.
Monday, April 23 Look for the Pleiades to
the right of the thin crescent Moon as twilight
deepens, as shown here.
