The Ball and the Box
Remember A preposition generally shows
proximity, time, or place. In class, we did the
Ball and the Box routine. The ball is above
the box. Above is the preposition in the
sentence.

• What is the purpose of a prepositional phrase?
• To show the relationship between two nouns.
• EX The dog is under the porch.
• The dog is under the porch.

Prepositions come in phrases

• The dog is under the porch.
• Prepositions consist of two essential pieces
• The preposition
• The object of the preposition

• The dog is under the porch.

• A noun that relates back to another noun in the
  sentence.
• Almost always follows after the preposition

Where are the prepositional phrases

• Prepositional phrases can come at any point in
  the sentence.
• Under the porch, the dog was growling loudly.
• The dog was growling loudly under the porch.

How to tell the difference?

• Adverbial phrases
• Describe a verb, adverb, or an adjective.

• Prepositional phrases
• Show proximity, location, time, and links two
  objects.
