Welcome to Open House! 2014-2015
  • Teacher Ms. Cendoya
  • 5th Grade, Gifted

Support RKBBH K-8
  • BOOK FAIR
  • The Book Fair is open all week. It will be open
    during the school day until 130. The Book Fair
    will reopen each day at 400 and close at 630.
  • Our class is scheduled to visit the Book Fair on
    Wednesday. Students should come prepared that
    day to make their purchases.
  • PTA
  • Become a PTA member, if you have not already done
    so.
  • PTA members
  • THANK YOU for all that you do for our
    school!!!!

Snacks Water
  • Lunch is not until 1250 p.m. Students are
    allowed to have their snack after 1000 am.
  • The snack should be
  • Healthy and nutritious
  • Non-messy- easy to eat while working
  • Finger food
  • NO CANDY!!!
  • Each student should come to school with a water
    bottle.
  • The water fountain may be used to refill their
    water bottles when needed!

Birthdays
  • As per school rules, we DO NOT have birthday
    celebrations during the school day.
  • Students may bring in a snack for the class.
    The snacks must be individual (easy to pass out)
    sized and there should be at least 21.
  • Please DO NOT send cakes, cupcakes, or other
  • frosted treats.
  • All party invitations should be distributed
    outside of school unless the entire class is
    being invited.

Field Trips
  • We will be having several field trips this year.
    As I receive more information I will pass it on.
  • The music department is putting together a field
    trip in October for 5th grade students and middle
    school Orchestra students.
  • Teachers are the only chaperones attending this
    trip. SORRY!
  • If you are interested in volunteering to
    chaperone ANY other field trip you must register
    through the parent portal.
  • Please send me your volunteer once you have
    been cleared.

Important Reminders
  • Every effort should be made to have your child
    present in school, on time, and prepared to
    learn.
  • Teaching and learning takes place from 835 am to
    305 pm.
  • Any moment missed and every interruption results
    in valuable learning time lost.

Doctors Appointment/Absence
  • When your child is absent, please send in a
    written absence excuse within 3 days of his/her
    return.
  • Make-up work is given to the students upon their
    return to school. It is the students
    responsibility to complete the missing work.
  • Please make every effort to schedule appointments
    for your child after school hours.

Tardies
  • The school day begins at 835 SHARP.
  • Students should arrive by 820-825. Its
    beneficial for students success to arrive early,
    unpack and get settled for the day.
  • Special area classes begin at 835 and are not in
    the classroom.

Conferences
  • Please send me a note or an email to request a
    conference.
  • Conferences may be held in person or by phone.
  • Conference appointment times and/or dates will be
    discussed upon request.

Student Agendas
  • All homework MUST be written down in the
    students agenda.
  • Agendas are required be taken home and returned
    to school daily. It is the students
    responsibility to see that this is done.
  • Please check the agendas and make sure students
    are staying on track.
  • Students use their agendas to keep track of
    upcoming tests and projects.

Homework
  • Students are held accountable for their homework
    and homework is REQUIRED.
  • Homework is due at 835 and is considered late
    if turned in anytime after that.
  • Students should have approximately 1 hour of
    homework.
  • READING IS ESSENTIAL FOR SUCCESS!!!! In addition
    to daily homework, students must read for at
    least 30 minutes every day.
  • Students are REQUIRED to work in their Science
    notebooks (IAN) and complete assignments weekly.

Grading
  • I use both formative and summative assessments.
  • Some class work and most homework assignments are
    considered to be formative assessments and wont
    be used to determine grades. Formative
    assessments are used to help students improve by
    providing practice for students and guidance for
    instruction.
  • Summative assessments are used to measure student
    achievement and determine grades. These
    assessments will have a grade on them and that
    grade will be used towards the average on the
    report card.

SCIENCE FAIR coming VERY soon!!!
  • Students should start thinking about possible
    topics and ideas. Once the Science Fair project
    is assigned the due dates will come very quickly.

  • Ask your child to find answers to questions in
